Soul Survivors

Almost three years ago, we got together, played our first gigs, tasting the fun of it all. We found out that good soul music at this day and age still touches people of all ages, not only our own tender hearts...

After a jump start freshly out of the pandemical lockdowns, we soon started writing our own songs and merged them with the regular covers. Fortunately our originals 'survived' the live sets and without hesitation, the aim for a Soul Survivors originals album started to materialize. Naturally, our homebase Rocksupplies Amsterdam became the birth place of it all!

September 13, it is finally going to happen! With the album title "The Road Ahead" Soul Survivors is marking its beginning as well as a sublime result of dedication and hard work! We have put our heart and soul into this.

SPRINGTOUR dates announced!

This spring Soul Survivors will be playing gigs all over the place in the Netherlands and Germany. We start in April in the legendary jazz venue DJS in Dordrecht. The day after we play at the Springjam festival in Kaldenkirchen.

In May we perform at Breda Jazz among giants like Benjamin Herman, Hans Dulfer, Scott Hamilton; we play for the Amsterdam fans at Rollende Keukens; we'll make a big party at the 50th edition of Jazz in Duketown (Yellowjackets, Candy Dulfer) and do a full nighter at Bourbon Street Amsterdam.

In June we go from spring to summer through the Zoetermeer Blues festival, Bielefeld Jazz&Blues Club, Cafe Kultus Grevenbroich and another Bourbon Street. See you at one of our shows!

Soul Survivors is a new young band from Amsterdam with a free spirit and a wild heart. The group has immersed themselves in soul, rhythm & blues by mastering all the old soul songs they love. With a setlist full of soul gems, they quickly built up a reputation in the Amsterdam live circuit. The band then used this musical suitcase to write powerful songs of their own. Soul Survivors gave dazzling performances in many Dutch clubs and festivals last season, including Jazz in Duketown, Zoetermeer Blues and Breda Jazz. The band has also gained a foothold in Germany in a short time with a growing fan base and performances at a/o Jazzkeller Krefeld, KIT Düsseldorf and festivals such as Spring Jam Kaldenkirchen.

After the release of a 7” 45 rpm vinyl in 2023, on 1 September 2024 the debut album The Road Ahead will be released with ten soul stompers. The compositions are rooted in the classics from the 60s and 70s by Motown and Stax, but also have a modern soul vibe.

The band has the Rock Supplies in Amsterdam West as its headquarters. This is where guitarist Max de Kok and bassist Dimitri Gelens have a studio where the songs are recorded. The tight Soul Survivors brass section consists of crackerjack trumpeter Pedro Jerónimo and top dog Jeroen van Genuchten on tenor sax. Gifted drummer Steve Cuiper and talented keyboardist Branco Spadon are ready for the big job. Singer Remko Spaaij has that dark soul voice that excites and thrills every room. The band alternates steamy soul songs with blues and rock bangers, think of how the Blues Brothers did it. Soul Survivors gonna take you higher, higher, higher!

MINITOUR GERMANY WAS AWESOME!

We brought a dynamic performance with a touch of own work we have been working on lately. Yes, we gave the german people a sneak preview of our debut album which is expected to come out somewhere in 2024...
